Scandinavian Design from a Finnish Perspective
Tarja Cockell will describe Finland’s unique and important place in the design history of the 20th century. This design philosophy grew from the traditional Finnish life-style of mutual support within local communities and between human beings and nature and has drawn international attention since the early 1950’s.
A native of Finland, Tarja Cockell has a degree in textiles and design with a major in weaving. A weaving teacher before moving to US, her current work uses mixed textile mediums in contemporary wall art pieces that use simplified images to convey the essence of the forms leaving space imagination.
