The Salem Theatre Company Second Stage takes on stories and music of the sea during a special event with Marblehead writer David Roper and local musicians Daisy Nell and Captain Stan on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 4 & 5 at 7:30 p.m. A Magical Evening of Music and Mermaids combines stories from Mr. Roper’s Boston Globe bestselling memoir Watching for Mermaids with sea shanties performed by one of the North Shore’s favorite maritime music duos.

The STC Theater is located at 90 Lafayette Street in Salem. Tickets are $10.

 Mr. Roper’s stories for adults present a magical, mysterious, and challenging waterborne journey. “In 1959, at 44.04N/68.35W, while rounding a bend on a small remote Maine island just east of Isle au Haut, a young boy stumbled upon two mermaids. No one believed him then. No one believes him now. I was that boy,” states Mr. Roper.

David Vos, former PBS Executive Producer and 3-time National Emmy Award Winner says “this treasure has struck a chord…a sheer delight. Mr. Roper has seen magic, and with a master’s touch he recreates it all for us.” Sandy Marsters, former publisher of Points East Magazine says, “Funny, fantastic, serious, meditative…Roper is a storyteller in the great tradition…”

Mr. Roper’s stories will be accented by music from the sea performed by Daisy Nell and Captain Stan.
