Advent is derived from the latin word for coming. This season is a time of preparation and expectation for the coming celebration of the light of Christ entering the world. Lessons and Carols is a contemplative service of readings from the Hebrew Scriptures, the New Testament, and contemporary poetry, that traces the story of our salvation history. The readings will be interspersed with Advent hymns, special music by the Choir of Episcopal Divinity School, and portions of Bach’s Magnificat. This year we welcome Ellen Oak as our new Director of Music and Heinrich Christensen as our guest organist. Heinrich is the Music Director at King’s Chapel in Boston. A festive reception will be held at the Deanery directly after the service. All are invited.
