A 2nd Sunday Concert at the New School of Music

An afternoon concert featuring violinist Nancy Zhou, a Laureate of the 2012 Queen Elisabeth Competition, and poetic pianist Kai-Ching Chang. Program will include Ravel Violin Sonata No.2, Schumann Sonata No. 2 in D minor, op.121, Ravel "Gaspard de la nuit" for piano solo.

The 2nd Sunday Concert Series is a showcase for the talents of New School’s performing artists and local guest musicians. About the Artists:

Kai-Ching Chang is Music Director and pianist of A When Notes Fly, A Chamber Music Ensemble, which performs an ongoing series of free concerts at Voltage Coffee & Art in Boston. Inspired by this innovative series, award-winning filmmaker Tatyana Bronstein produced a documentary, When Notes Fly, based on Ms. Chang’s work, in 2012. Ms. Chang recently participated in the El Sistema program in Colon, Venezuela, where she witnessed the children’s incredible passion for music-making and was subsequently awarded Distinguished Visitor of Tachira State. In 2010, she won the Prix de Musique de Chambre from Fontainebleau School in France and, as winner of the Longy School of Music Concerto Competition in 2008, performed the Shostakovich Piano Concerto No.1 with Longy Chamber Orchestra. Ms. Chang performed as a guest artist in the Harvard University Dudley Arts Chamber Music Series in the 2011-2012 season. As a collaborative pianist, Ms. Chang has appeared as a performing associate in International Bowdoin Music Festival and has collaborated with Roger Tapping, Sergey Antonov, Jayne West, Robert Honeysucker, Carol McGonell, Meighan Stoops, Benjamin Shute and Nancy Zhou. In 2005, she worked as an assistant accompanist in National Symphony Orchestra (Taipei, Taiwan). Kai-Ching has collaborated with composer Paul Brust, and has premiered contemporary works by Amit Gilutz, JwaBum Saho Kim, Caroline Park, Joel Schenk, and Adam Jacob Simon www.whennotesfly.com

Nancy Zhou was the first prize winner of the 2009 Johansen International Competition and of the 2009 Chinese International Violin Competition, a semi-finalist in the 2011 International Tchaikovsky Competition, a finalist and recipient of the Rastor special award for the best performance of Kaija Sariaaho's Tocar at the 2010 Sibelius International Violin Competition in Helsinki, Finland and a Laureate of the 2012 Queen Elisabeth Competition. Zhou has performed as a soloist with the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, National Orchestra of Belgium, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, Baden-Baden Philharmonic, Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta, and several other orchestras, and has performed recitals in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and the United States.

Zhou was born in San Antonio, Texas, and is a graduate of the Keystone School in San Antonio. She began violin study at age four with her father, Long Zhou, who continued to be her teacher throughout her youth. She is currently a student of Miriam Fried at New England Conservatory and also attends Harvard University.
