    En Barque

Music decades removed from the buildup of the French Revolution to the Napoleonic Wars serves as the musical backdrop of Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey series of “nautical historical novels” (1800-1813). Therein the two main characters are “almost as unlike as men could be” but are “united in a deep love for music, and many and many an evening had they played together.”

Music by Locatelli (the infamous nonexistent C Major Quartet notwithstanding), J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, Corelli, and Pergolesi will round out the “the intricate, reflective music” of the novels as best suits the performing space and audience.
