Photo-journalist Darren McCollester covers national politics, human rights issues and conflicts around the globe. McCollester will speak about and show his photography and discuss his new book, All the Kennedys Are Dead.

In 2006, McCollester found himself on the outskirts of a Sudanese refugee camp in eastern Chad, dehydrated, surrounded by an elderly woman sitting in her feces, a young woman swinging a large steel pipe, and a man chained to a tree. In a moment defined by lack of food and water, he began to question the business in which he works, how he got there, and if he can ever live without it. Alternating between journal entries and short stories, McCollester's book details the life of a freelance photo-journalist, covering the day's news for an international photo agency and preparing for a self-funded trip overseas.

Darren McCollester got his start at the Jamaica Plain Gazette before moving to Afghanistan and Kosovo. He made his home in JP on Greenough Avenue and then Eliot Street, moving to Winthrop MA earlier this year.
