House of Psychotic Women Book Launch Party!

House of Psychotic Women Book Launch!
Featuring a screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s MARNIE

The screening will be introduced by author Kier-La Janisse and will be followed by a book signing.

Cult film connoisseur and programmer Kier-La Janisse visits the Brattle to celebrate the release of her remarkable new book, House of Psychotic Women: An Autobiographical Topography of Female Neurosis in Horror and Exploitation Films. Janisse will introduce a screening of Hitchcock’s MARNIE and sign copies of her new book in which personal recollections combine film history to create a reflective personal history and examination of female madness, both onscreen and off.

    MARNIE
(1964) dir Alfred Hitchcock w/Tippi Hedron, Sean Connery [130 min]
Perhaps Hitchcock’s most subversively perverse film, MARNIE features Tippi Hedron (The Birds) as a compulsive thief who is coerced into an unwanted marriage with her studly boss, Mark (Connery), who wants to ‘fix’ her. Of course, things are much more complicated than Mark imagines and he follows Marnie down a rabbit hole of pop psychology and repressed memories to uncover the secrets behind her apparently crazy behavior.
