    On Sunday, December 9 at 10:00 am Newton Baroque and the Choir of Second Church in Newton will present two advent cantatas by Phillip Heinrich Erlebach (1657-1714) at Second Church in Newton. From 1681 to his death, Erlebach was the Kappelmeister to Count Phillip Anton at the Thüringian Court Schwarzberg-Rudolstadt. He was quite prolific, writing at least five cycles of cantatas. His cantatas rank among the best of his generation, though sadly most of his output burned in a fire in Rudolstadt not long after his death. The two cantatas featured on December 9th are tremendously beautiful and are sure to warm your soul on a chilly December morning. Both cantatas feature rich 5- and 6-voice textures with 3 violins, 2 viola da gambas and continuo.

    Soloists include Julia Steinbok – Soprano, Shiba Nemat-Nasser – Alto, Tom Oesterling – Tenor, Matthew Stansfield – Bass;
    Susanna Ogata, Daniel Stepner and Jesse Irons – Violin;
    Laura Jeppesen and Douglas Kelly – Viola da Gamba;
    Andrus Madsen – Director
