Lexington Symphony Music Director Jonathan McPhee’s admiration for mentor Leonard Bernstein informs this special program exploring "Third Stream" -- a synthesis of classical music and jazz. Bernstein’s symphonic suite “On the Waterfront,” a symphonic arrangement of Gershwin’s great American opera “Porgy and Bess” (which Bernstein championed), and Howard Brubeck’s “Dialogues for Jazz Combo and Orchestra” (which Bernstein premiered) come together in this celebration of American music. Special pre-concert conductor’s talk about Bernstein offered by McPhee at 7 pm.
