    East Meets West: Dünya Evokes Istanbul in Music, c. 1500-1800

    "You can’t build a wall around music!” Six expert performers from the Dünya ensemble take us to old Istanbul, where East and West met. They draw on travelers' tales; a sultan's music director's manuscript; popular, courtly, and religious music from East and West. The group sing and play many exotic instruments: Ottoman harp, lute, reed-trumpet, flute, bagpipes, fiddle, viola da gamba, percussion, and more....
