UNH Faculty Concert Series: David Ripley, bass-baritone and Arlene Kies, piano
Presented by University of New Hampshire
February 1, 2013
Bass baritone David Ripley and pianist Arlene Kies of the University of New Hampshire Music Department will partner again this February 1st to present Schubert’s Die Schöne Müllerin in a concert titled “A Tribute to Dietrich Fischer Dieskau”.
The German lyric baritone Dieskau is considered by many to be the greatest baritone of the 20th century and died this past year at the age of eighty-four. Among the highlights of his vast career was his devotion to German lieder and within that realm, particularly the songs of Franz Schubert.
Die Schöne Müllerin is one of the two beloved song cycles by Schubert, the other being Die Winterreise, both performed by Ripley and Kies.
This marks the fourteenth season of recitals by this respected duo and is sure to be a fine tribute to both enduring music and great artistry. Their work has received high praise in The American Record Guide.
