Sweet madrigals by Maddalena Casulana and Vittoria Alleotti. Luscious airs of Julie Pinel. The joys and sorrows of Barbara Strozzi’s arias. Dramatic excerpts from Antonia Bembo’s psalms. Our journey through Love will lead you to the lighthearted voice of happiness, the sultry tone of desire, and sheer ecstasy; and from the dark hand of grief and despair to the clenched fists of jealousy, anger, and revenge. We finally bring you back to resurrection, forgiveness, and the peace of the pastoral world where everything is perfect. The program is balanced by elegant and spirited trio sonatas of Isabella Leonarda and Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre.
