NEC Wind Ensemble + Peltz, Battisti

Charles Peltz, Director of Wind Ensemble Activities, welcomes back Frank Battisti, founder of the NEC Wind Ensemble, for a Valentine's tribute to composer Karel Husa. Battisti not only founded the Wind Ensemble but taught many young conductors including NEC's Charles Peltz and William Drury in the Wind Ensemble Conducting program he founded. Battisti also conducted many new works, some he commissioned, others for which he gave the premieres. Among the composers he particularly championed was the Czech-born Karel Husa (b. 1921), winner of the 1969 Pulitzer Prize and 1993 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award in Music Composition. Among the Husa works being performed tonight is Music for Prague, composed in memory of the 1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia.
