The Company Theatre presents the Tony® Award winning musical Chicago, from April 5 through 28, at The Company Theatre Centre for the Arts, 30 Accord Park Drive, Norwell, MA. The production is directed by Zoe Bradford and Jordie Saucerman, choreographed by Sally Forrest, with music direction by Michael Joseph.

Set in the roaring twenties, Chicago paints the town red in vaudeville style and the iconic choreography of Bob Fosse, two merry murderesses and their hotshot lawyer. A sharp edged satire with a dazzling score, this six-time Tony® Award winner includes the award for Best Revival, plus the longest running revival in Broadway history. On the big screen, Chicago earned an Oscar Award for Best Picture. On stage, ambitious chorus gal Roxie Hart murders her faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband to take the blame. Convicted and sent to death row, she meets another “merry murderess” in Velma Kelly. The two vie for the spotlight, headlines, and join forces in search of the “American Dream” – fame, fortune and acquittal. Chicago is the hit heard round the world, calling out with “C’mon babe, we’re gonna paint the town…and all that jazz!”

“The Company Theatre has sought securing the rights to Chicago for over 10 years!” says Zoe Bradford, co-Director. “Our creative team is very excited to finally be able to bring this unique and wildly popular musical to our stage. Jordie and I delight in this co-directing challenge, staging the story which is based on true events from my original hometown. We’re looking forward to sharing the fishnets, jazzy score, and sexy fun that Chicago will offer our audiences!”

“Musically, Chicago hits the hot buttons of an era. This is quintessential Kander and Ebb,” says Music Director Michael Joseph. “The characters’ stories are told in sultry, undulating tones and rhythms, teasing us along until they give way to raucous outbursts of energy. Elements of Ragtime, Vaudeville and Jazz are combined into one of Broadway's most loved musical scores and provide the musical root for Fosse's iconic choreography.”

Chicago choreography captures the legendary iconic dance style of Fosse. Infused with his sensual vaudeville and burlesque background, precise jazz movements combine with sharp costumes and signature dance sequences. “This is our opportunity to showcase the talent of long-time resident choreographer Sally Ashton Forrest,” says Bradford. “Sally originated all the choreography and staging for last summer's premiere of Paragon Park the Musical - a major accomplishment on a new work. With Chicago, she’ll pay homage to Bob Fosse’s choreography, while putting her own unique brand on dancing and movement.” The stage is set with acting dancers who’ve been strutting their stuff through nearly 2 months of rigorous rehearsals on their way to opening night. Ashton Forrest is fulfilling yet another dancer’s dream with this opportunity. “Any choreographer would feel honored to recreate a Fosse production,” says Ashton Forrest. “Add into the mix the artistic reinvention from Rob Marshall's movie interpretation, and recreating the magic is a dream come true.”

The cast of 21 helms from the entire region, featuring exceptional talent, including Corinne Mason as “Roxie Hart”, Johanna Perri as “Velma Kelly”, Janet Ferreri as “Mama Morton”, Ken Bayliss as “Billy Flynn”, Chris DiOrio as “Amos Hart”, and James A. Valentin as “Mary Sunshine”.
