The OTP Playwriting Workshops are once a month public readings which provide our community a rare look into various stages of the playwriting process and an open forum for questions, conversation & continued development following every workshop.
about the play:
Rook is a full-length drama that explores the thin line between genius and insanity. The action of the play revolves around Chess Legend Bobby Fischer, a brilliant prodigy who made grandmaster at 15, but could barely remember how to get home on the subway each afternoon. Over the course of six years, the play focuses predominantly on Fischer’s teen years, his family relationships, and his bond with real life sports reporter Dick Schaap. In his attempt to become the greatest chess player in the world, Fischer is pressured into a dark hole of paranoia and mistrust, alienated and alone, living in a house of chess.
