Musical Theater Workshop: Introduction to Analysis, Craft & Creation
Presented by Arlington Community Education
May 9, 2013
Allen Feinstein, a composer/lyricist and Music Supervisor of Harvard's Hasty Pudding Theatricals, will lead this fun evening of creative exploration and a close look at musical theater masterworks. How are great musicals constructed? What tools does one need to build a musical? We will begin to explore these questions, focusing on how effective lyrics are crafted, how songs function in musicals, and how book writers, lyricists, and composers adapt works from other media to the musical theater stage. We will transform our discoveries into creative strategies, crafting lyrics and creating a song or two together. No musical background is necessary to participate in this class. Aspiring actors, composers, lyricists, authors of all styles, and all those with a curiosity about how musicals are made are encouraged to attend.
