Pianist Meng-Chieh Liu plays Schubert Sonatas
April 13, 2013
A recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, Meng-Chieh Liu made headlines in 1993 when he substituted André Watts at last minute's notice. The concert made him an over-night celebrity, followed by widely praised performances. However, a life-threatening illness interrupted his career. Doctors announced his chance of playing piano again would be “absolutely impossible.” With determination and years of treatment, Liu made a glorious come back with added maturity, and was awarded with many top honors. The Philadelphia Weekly called him “an extraordinarily complete musician.” Free student tickets available online.
