Join us in Story Chapel for a special performance by New England Conservatory’s Honors string quartet, Gioviale String Quartet. Several figures integral to the history of the New England Conservatory, the oldest independent school of music in the country, are interred at Mount Auburn.
Winner of the New England Conservatory’s 2012-2013 Honors Chamber Music Competition, the Gioviale String Quartet has performed in Jordan Hall and venues across Boston. With members hailing from three different countries, the quartet has gained reputation as a youthful, colorful, jovial, and exhilarating group. As a participant of NEC’s Beethoven Quartet Seminar, the Gioviale Quartet gave a performance of Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 18, No. 6 in Jordan Hall in December 2012. The quartet has performed in masterclasses given by Roger Tapping, Paul Katz, and Donald Weilerstein. Members of the quartet have participated in several festivals, including the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, Taos School of Music, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Great Mountains Music Festival, among others. The quartet’s upcoming performances include a full recital in NEC’s Jordan Hall on May 1st, 2013. Gioviale Quartet is currently studying with Paul Biss at New England Conservatory in Boston, MA.
