Opera at the Arsenal: Arias & Anecdotes
Presented by Arsenal Center for the Arts
April 16, 2013
Operatic singing is in the air this spring with Opera at the Arsenal: Arias and Anecdotes. Mezzo-soprano Luretta Bybee, Chair of the New England Conservatory’s Vocal Arts Department, will guide a master class and performance showcasing baritone Elijah Blaisdell, mezzo Gillian Cotter, soprano Bridget Haile, and tenor Marco Antonio Jordão, accompanied by pianist Timothy Steele. The four singers, all NEC graduate students, recently performed in Rossini's comic opera, La Gazzetta. For the casual admirer to the opera aficionado, this program, layered with interesting anecdotes, presents an array of arias from baroque to contemporary. Bybee will focus on the stylistic choices a singer makes as well as the mental game of preparing and presenting an operatic role.
