Formed in Glasgow by singer/songwriter Stuart Murdoch and bassist Stuart David in 1996, Belle and Sebastian have proven to be one of the most beloved Scottish bands of the late '90s and 2000s. Their beautifully delicate but lush folk-pop sound won them a legion of fans and garnered them the "Best New Band" title at the 1998 Brit Awards. Their self-released debut album Tigermilk--recorded in just three days and released on vinyl with only 1000 copies printed--became a phenomenal success, and original copies are now sought-after collectors' items.
