MetroWest Opera presents Bizet's Carmen
May 16 - May 19, 2013
MetroWest Opera's intoxicating Carmen brings men and matadors to their knees. Obsession, jealousy, and murder, make Bizet's Carmen one of the most popular operas in history. Hear the rousing "Toreador Song" and seductive "Habanera" as only MWO can present them. The production will feature full orchestra and be sung in the original French with English Supertitles. May 16-19, 2013 Weston Town Hall 11 Townhouse Rd Weston, MA 02493
MetroWest Opera’s Carmen, directed by Eve Summer and conducted by Adam Kerry Boyles, will be uniquely presented in the round to pay homage to the nomadic nature of the gypsies around whom the show centers. An an audience member you will feel as if you’ve left the concert hall and landed right in the middle of Carmen’s gypsy camp or the rowdy military barracks of Don Jose.
This scintillating production is double cast and features celebrated local and emerging talent in the lead roles. MetroWest Opera’s Founder and Artistic Director, soprano, Dana Schnitzer will share the role of Micaela, the innocent girl next door, with soprano, Sonja Krenek who won 1st place in the 2012 MetroWest Opera Competition. Bullfighting Escamillo will be sung by baritone, Eric Peterson for all four performances. The rugged soldier, Don Jose will be sung by tenors Adam Juran and Daniel Juarez, and the title role of the sexy and cunning Carmen will be sung by Heather Gallagher and Desiree Maira. The level of talent in the two casts (Cast A performs 5/16 & 5/18; cast B: 5/17 & 5/19) is staggering. Artists from past MWO productions have gone on to sing at New York City Opera and the Metropolitan Opera!
