Mae Buckley’s Live - Jazz Five
June 2, 2013
"Mae Buckley's gift is in communicating the story behind the music to her listeners. She is a talented and versatile performer."... The Wellesley Townsman
Local songstress Mae Buckley brings a sophisticated sensibility to the American songbook—one that belies her young career and immediately marks her as a kindred spirit among older jazz souls.
As a choral performer, Mae has sung with ensembles everywhere from London's St. Jude's (on a bill with her hero Stacey Kent) to Boston's Hatch Shell and Symphony Hall. She recently soloed during a performance with the Boston Gay Men's Chorus at Jordan Hall. Mae's skill as a jazz musician was recognized last year by the Massachusetts Association of Jazz Education, who named her the state's Most Valuable Performer.
Backing up Mae on this date will be a tight quartet of seasoned jazz players and she will also be joined by a few special guest performers. The two-hour set list is jam-packed with everything from Latin and jazz favorites to jazzy takes on more contemporary classics.
In September, Mae will be attending Berklee School of Music as a vocal performance major but before she goes she will be serving as a volunteer at the International Scout Centre in Kandersteg Switzerland. Proceeds from this performance will be used to support Mae's volunteer work this summer.
