About the Program
Atlanta’s dynamic and critically-acclaimed professional vocal ensemble makes its Boston debut with an emotionally-charged program of choral music exploring the many stages and varieties of love and adoration. Skylark begins the program by weaving together a diverse mixture of a cappella vocal works and poetry to trace the arc of romantic love from its early stages. Skylark then offers beautiful musical homages to other forms of romance – the love of nature, the love of wisdom and justice, religious love and devotion, and finally, the profoundly human love of “home”. As its primary palette, Skylark shares several little-known compilations of works by Johannes Brahms (Op. 62) and Gustav Holst (Op. 36B). The program also features works from Bruckner and Debussy, as well as some heartfelt classics of the American South, featuring arrangements from Robert Shaw and Alice Parker.
The Skylark Vocal Ensemble is a professional chamber choir of world-class vocalists and musicians with a passion for small ensemble performance. Our members are not only members of finest choirs of Atlanta and Boston (including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chamber Chorus, The Handel and Haydn Society, and the Boston Baroque) but also have performed with internationally renowned ensembles, including: the Blue Heron Chorale, Chanticleer, the Choir of St Thomas Fifth Avenue, Conspirare, Seraphic Fire, the Choir of Trinity College Cambridge, the Westminster Abbey Choir, and the Yale Choral Artists.
