About “Immersion” Over the past seven years, surfing enthusiast and filmmaker Tim Bonython has spent every available moment doing what he loves – conducting interviews and filming images of breath-taking wave riding from all corners of the globe to create a 13-part series on his beloved sport of surfing. This series has now been re-created into a two-part live theatrical show called IMMERSION. IMMERSION looks at every aspect of surfing – from its early history, the evolution of surfboards, the science of surfing, the grown of the sport and development of competition, to how surfing is portrayed in the media, the action and still cameramen, film editors to the business of surfing and the counter culture that has grown worldwide. Immersion takes you to some of the world’s most isolated, notorious and picturesque surfing locations.
IMMERSION is not just big waves and boards as the film covers all aspects of the sport – from body surfing and body boarding, surf ski, long board and even the new stand up paddle boarding. About Matt Heaton Matt Heaton will play unaccompanied surf guitar instrumentals, drawing inspiration from classic axe slingers like Dick Dale and Link Wray as well as spy, science fiction and spaghetti western movies, often in the same tunes. Matt Heaton & the Electric Heaters Site About Tsunami of Sound TSUNAMI OF SOUND plays Huge surf-inspired instrumentals that will make your head shake and your feet move. The music we create is inspired by the Ventures, Los Straitjackets, Link Wray, the Fathoms, Laika and the Cosmonauts and all instrumental music. Tsunami of Sound Site About The Derangers DON’T FEAR THE REVERB!
One hot Saturday afternoon in 1988, blues guitarist Drew Townson, then freshly relocated from Dallas to Boston, was laying on the couch nursing a hangover. He was watching an old cowboy movie called “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.” The music in the Italian Western caught Drew’s attention, big time. He jumped off the couch, grabbed his Stratocaster, and began playing in a whole new way. That moment changed Drew’s musical direction forever. By 1989 he had started a band called the Derangers (pronounced “De-Rangers”), dedicated to playing spooky instrumental themes, encompassing Spaghetti Western, Surf, Spy-Jazz and more. The first original recording by The Derangers was a filmic western called “Rio Sangre,” which was internationally hailed as a standout track. By the early 90’s film directors like David Lynch and Quentin Tarantino were also exploring this haunted, reverberant sound in their movies. Drew had always been a fan of original Surf-guitar kings like Dick Dale and The Ventures, so it was only natural to combine all these influences in to the Derangers’ “WesterMental” sound. With Drew’s Strat a-blazin’ the trio gigged, toured and recorded from 1990 to 2000, Now, after a decade of dormancy, those bad bandidos are BACK!
