The "Art on Loan" program which displays the work of local artists on the meeting room walls in Barnstable Town Hall, features the works of Karen Ryder in the Selectmen’s Conference Room and the Town Hall Hearing Room, located on the 2nd floor in Barnstable Town Hall, now through June 21st, 2013. Karen Ryder is an artist with a career in business development marketing management. When speaking about being an artist, “she refutes the claim that we must forsake all other pursuits in order to be a “true” artist. Her business and personal lives feed her art and the process of making art provides a release from the more structured parts of her life.” She spends time sketching all around Hyannis during many of her lunch breaks! Having made a conscious decision to pursue fine art in a more meaningful way several years ago, she built upon her interest of the human form to develop a body of work shared in a solo exhibition, Figuratively Speaking at the Guyer Barn, in Hyannis. Her work has also been exhibited at the Lore Degenstein Gallery in PA, Cotuit Center for the Arts, Cape Cod Art Association and PAAM. This July and August, her work will be part of a collaborative exhibition entitled, In the Moment, at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in South Yarmouth. Whether the subject is the human form, landscapes or stills -her goal is to capture that slice of time that she’s in, before the moment passes. The works she has selected to exhibit at Barnstable Town Hall are a selection of her extensive body of work in watercolor, acrylic and pastel.
