Highfield Hall: Bluegrass: America’s Musical Roots, a lecture with Robert Wyatt
July 27, 2013
When mandolin player Bill Monroe put together a band in 1939, the Blue Grass Boys, he blended the country, gospel and blues music that he had learned as a boy. It was music of Appalachia, a sound mixed with traditional music of Scotland, Ireland and England and spiced with jazz. Robert Wyatt’s lecture tells the story, shares foot-stompin’ recordings and clips, and prepares you for the live music you will hear at Highfield Hall on August 4.
