Lesley University's summer series of free readings and presentations run from June 21-28 and include faculty readings, a film, a collaboration of poetry and musical accompaniment, and a June 24 visit by the highly celebrated novelist Justin Torres, author of the exquisite and blistering “We the Animals.” Named one of Salon’s “Sexiest Men of 2011,” Torres received the Rolón United States Artist Fellowship in Literature, and is a Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford.

Another featured event of the series, on Wednesday, June 27, will include poetry by Thomas Sayers Ellis accompanied by saxophonist James Brandon Lewis.

The readings are presented by Lesley’s Graduate School of Arts and Social Sciences’ acclaimed Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Program in Creative Writing, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Steven Cramer, Associate Professor of Creative Writing and Director of the MFA in Creative Writing, organizes the summer series. Cramer, a distinguished poet, is the recipient of the L.A. Times Book Prize Nomination, a Massachusetts Honor Book Citation, the Sheila Motton Prize from the New England Poetry Club, a Massachusetts Artists Foundation Fellowship, and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship.

As part of Lesley’s commitment to community engagement, the MFA program invites the public to attend evening readings and presentations from visiting authors, Lesley faculty, and graduating students.
The readings will take place in Lesley University’s Marran Theater, 34 Mellen Street, Cambridge.
