Summer Acting Boot Camp with Steve Blackwood of NBC's "Days of Our Lives"
Presented by The Actors Studio of Newburyport
July 13 - August 24, 2013
Summer Acting Boot Camp with Steve Blackwood of NBC's "Days of Our Lives" Saturdays 1:00 - 4:00 PM For 4 weeks - July 13 & 27, August 10 & 24 Fee: $249.00 Steve Blackwood will teach a Cold Reading Technique and Scene Study Summer Boot Camp for actors who are ready for a challenge. Steve has 30 years of experience in film, TV and stage. His teaching is based upon the methods he learned from studying with the legendary Uta Hagen in New York and the renowned Milton Katselas, "Acting Coach to the Stars," in Los Angeles. During the first two weeks, Steve will cover cold reading technique - a very important skill to master, especially for auditions. He will show students how to trust their instincts and personalize the copy. During the last two weeks, students will be cast in scenes based upon their "casting type" and will rehearse with their scene partners outside of class, in preparation for the class performances. Students will receive direction and notes from Steve on August 10th for their showcase performance in front of an audience, on August 24th. Local talent agents and casting directors will be invited! Since acting is a business as well as an art, Steve will cover all topics on the business of acting during the boot camp, including: how to get an agent, how to stay in the casting director's eye and how to develop and maintain relationships with directors, producers and more. For ten years, Steve Blackwood played Bart Biederbiecke on the NBC daytime soap opera, "Days of Our Lives" and has been in countless films and TV shows, such as "Machine Gun Preacher," "Cedar Rapids," "Mooz-Lum," "Ed Gein," "Misled," "The Mask," and "Judging Amy." Stage productions include "The Heidi Chronicles," "The Prisoner of 2nd Avenue," "Oleanna," "Boeing Boeing," and "Ding Dong." He won the Andes Award for Best Actor in "Boeing Boeing" at Meadow Brook Theatre, Detroit, in 2011 and won the Matilda Award for the Lifetime Achievement in Theatre from Oakland University. He is an adjunct professor of On-camera Acting at Hillsdale College and Oakland University Honors College, and he has taught acting workshops for years. He has a degree in Drama from Oakland University. To register or for more information, contact Marc Clopton at 978-465-1229 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
