immortal notes, Parisian air: Chopin, Copland, Bennett, Feldman, Mendelssohn

We open our season with a trip to the City of Light, where artists have gone for centuries – to study, to be inspired, to make their mark – featuring Paris' most famous expatriate composer, Frederic Chopin, and Morton Feldman’s delicate, imaginative portrayal of Chopin’s encounter with the German poet Heinrich Heine on the Rue Fürstenberg. Featuring Mary Mackenzie, soprano.

    PROGRAM:
Frederic Chopin, Sonata in g minor for cello & piano, Op. 65
Aaron Copland, Nocturne for violin & piano
Richard Rodney Bennett, Sonata after Syrinx for flute, viola & harp
Morton Feldman, I Met Heine on the Rue Fürstenberg for voice, flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano & percussion
Felix Mendelssohn, Piano Quartet No. 3 in b minor, Op. 3
