Mussorgsky, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky
April 22 - April 24, 2014
Lorin Maazel begins the penultimate program of the BSO's 2013-14 season with Mussorgsky's eerie and thrilling Night on Bare Mountain, and finishes with Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, the second of his popular last three symphonies, all representing powerful musical takes by the composer on the subject of fate. In between comes Rachmaninoff's characterful and inventive Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini for piano and orchestra, with the young Uzbek-born pianist Behzod Abduraimov making his BSO debut.
