The 3 M's: Muses, Modes, and Magic! A Music and Dance Extravaganza
September 6 - September 7, 2013
In celebration of recent renovation of The Dance Complex and a new year of exciting artistic collaborations between the two organizations, The Broken Consort is presenting an evening of intimate chamber music titled: "The Three M's: Muses, Modes, and Magic!" in the fantastic theater space at the Dance Complex. This performance will be enhanced by several outstanding professional dancers in the Boston area.
Come and join us in discovering the magic of old and new music performed by TBC, a professional early and new music ensemble praised by critics as "extraordinary", "striking", and "compelling". This concert will include compositions by Patricia van Ness, Monteverdi, Busnois, Dowland, des Prez, Landini, and many more on lute, oud, vielle, viola da gamba, historical harp, percussion, and voices!
There will also be a wine reception.
This is the perfect opportunity grab a glass of wine, watch a great show, and connect with other interesting people in the Boston music and dance scene right at the beginning of another academic/concert/fun year. :)

Who are we?
The Broken Consort is an exuberant, experimental, and committed professional medieval and contemporary chamber music ensemble based in Boston, MA. Equal parts virtuosic vocal consort and instrumental consortium, The Broken Consort draws upon the perfect blend of classical artistry and daredevil innovation to create exciting and unforgettable programs.
The Boston Musical Intelligencer praised us as “early music turned early magic,” citing our “extraordinary sonorousness,” and dubbing our performance “bewitched and beguiled.” The Broken Consort has performed in front of enthusiastic audience in Boston, Cleveland, Tucson, Phoenix, Atlanta, Baltimore, and Vancouver. Upcoming season engagements include stops in New York City, Houston, Boston, Washington D.C. area, Tulsa, and more.
In addition to stellar-quality performances, The Broken Consort is equally invested in educational and charitable activities. The Broken Consort’s mission is to bring early music and new music to the general public and those who are usually not drawn to the repertoire. We seek to challenge mainstream audience perceptions of classical and chamber music performance, opening ear and eyes to sounds and concepts never experienced before. We have presented performance- lectures at Harvard University and Arizona State University, plus a number of K-12 schools in the various cities in the U.S. The Broken Consort also broke ground through a series of prison outreach at various correctional facilities.
The Broken Consort seeks to further our collaboration with visual artists, dancers, and composers in the 2013 concert season and beyond. We hope to create fresh concert experiences relevant and exciting to today’s audience.
