Groove Translation: Jazz-World Music Faculty Concert
October 26, 2013
From the exuberance of New Orleans’ second-line, to the propulsion of swing, to Afro-Cuban Clave and Haitian Ibo, rhythm or “groove” is the heartbeat of all improvisational music. The evening’s performance will highlight the world of rhythmic diversity, from traditional beats to metric innovations. Dave Brubeck, who made rhythmic exploration a lifelong pursuit, said: “Rhythm is the universal human language.” A reception will follow the performance.
