Riverfest’s popularity has grown substantially with over 5,000 in attendance last year. This year’s festival has expanded the fun by doubling the number of Food Trucks, artists, bands, and expanding into DCR’s Baxter Park along the Mystic River. Riverfest also marks the final installment of ASSEMBLED: The Handmade Arts Market at Assembly Row. This16-week arts market that has been taking place weekly all summer long and will be going out with a bang, with more than 50 artisans, some a part of MODVIC’s ‘World of Steampunk Art & Design’, all coming together to showcase their work at Riverfest. In addition to the dozens of handmade artists, Riverfest will also feature a free kid’s area, live music all day long, fireworks over the Mystic River at 8pm, plus popular area Food Trucks, including: Bon Me Frozen Hoagies Lobsta Love The Pasta Pot Boston Super Dog Grilled Cheese Nation LM Slush The Spud Stud There will also be artist seminars and demonstrations, and Somerville’s Mayor, Joseph A. Curtatone, will also be speaking preceding the fireworks show at 8pm. Kid’s activities are all free and will include games and inflatable amusements, a photo booth, face painting, balloon artists, magicians, storytelling, music, puppetry, and more – making Riverfest 2013 to perfect day for families, foodies, and art-lovers alike. A variety of Steampunk bands will be performing throughout the day, including: Eric Royer’s One Man Band, Magic of Clarke Braudis, Frenchy and the Punk, and Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys. There will also be local performers in addition, including Bloco AfroBrazil, a percussion ensemble that combines traditional Brazilian grooves with funk, rock, jazz and hip-hop, Peachpit, a local rock and roll group.
