Il Contrasto della Bianca e della Brunetta: Music, dance, and theater at the time of Isabella d'Este
November 18, 2013
This semester the Collegium will explore the songs and dance music from the Mantuan court of Isabella d'Este and her contemporaries, including the notorious Lucrezia Borgia. Featured will be a theatrical presentation of Il Contrasto della Bianca e della Brunetta, a gender-bending story that turns the chivalric notion of the relationships between knights and ladies on its head. This short humorous dramatic poem survives in only one source, the Plympton Collection right here at Wellesley College!
