Rachel Brotman is a vocalist, composer and pianist born and raised in lower Manhattan. After four years of performing and honing her unique vision in New Orleans, Brotman returned to the city and settled in Brooklyn to put together her most recent project as a bandleader. The group features Brotman's intricately woven compositions and arrangements for keyboard/piano, flugelhorn, bass and drums, drawing from soul and electronic influences amidst roots in jazz and improvisation.
Created in the fall of 2012 by vocalist and composer Raquel Alexa, Amethyst has brought together six of Boston’s up-and-coming young musicians for a unique and anticipated new project. The six-piece group
delivers an eclectic mix of Alexa’s originals as well as collaborative new arrangements of covers from artists such as Kimbra and Taylor Eigsti. This contrast is a powerful part of the group’s material, which effortlessly combines pop, jazz, and latin influences through skillful performance technique honed at the Berklee College of music. Amethyst released their EP “SAE” this February and has been performing their material throughout Boston and New York since. The EP features Evan Waraama (piano), Matt
Raphaelian (drums), Doug Richards (bass), Jared Yee (tenor sax), and Raquel Alexa and Anna Talpe (vocals).
