    Riders on the Storm: War Horses in Lakota Ledger Art

     6:00 PM Wednesday, December 4, 2013 Geological Lecture Hall (24 Oxford St., Cambridge). A book signing and reception will follow at the Peabody Museum (11 Divinity Avenue). Free and open to the public.

    In this illustrated lecture celebrating the publication of A Lakota War Book from the Little Bighorn: The Pictographic Autobiography of Half Moon, author Castle McLaughlin will explore the relationship between Lakota (western Sioux) metaphysics and images of horses in nineteenth-century ledger art.

    Castle McLaughlin is Museum Curator of North American Ethnography at the Peabody Museum. Join her after the lecture at a free public reception in the exhibition she co-curated with Butch Thunder Hawk on the Lakota and warrior ledger art, Wiyohpiyata: Lakota Images of the Contested West. The book is a joint publication of the Peabody Museum Press and the Houghton Library at Harvard.
