    Bach and Vivaldi a lo Latino! A concert for peace in Venezuela

    Bach's fugue style and influence transcend time and culture. This concert presents a vivid illustration of his impact on the music of Latin America, as in Villa-Lobos's Bachianas brasileiras, and Piazzolla's Fugata. Most of the concert is dedicated to Bach’s influence on Venezuelan composers and arrangers, including Miguel Astor, Modesta Bor, Gregory Pino, and Aldemaro Romero, whose works will be performed on period instruments as well as Latin American instruments. As a complement to this musical cross-fertilization, a Vivaldi lute concerto will be performed on a tiple, a 12-string Colombian guitar.

    Erika Vogel, soprano; Guan-Ting Liao, violin
    Na’ama Lion, flute; Jane Starkman, viola
    Alejandro Chávez, Early and Venezuelan guitars
    Francisco Vielma, percussion; Fabian Gallon, tiple
    Esther Rojas and Victor Murillo, bass;
    Margaret Angelini, keyboards;
    Laury Gutiérrez, viola da gamba
