Works of Love
February 6 - February 22, 2015
Warm up winter’s chill with Works of Love, three powerful ballets by celebrated dancemaker José Mateo that explore the intensity, emotion, and playfulness of human relationships. A Cuban-inspired favorite, Danzones Balleticos (2004) is a flirty and fun venture into Cuban social dance set to various Cuban composers. Released (2014) is a recent premiere that The Patriot Ledger says, “…spices up Mateo’s repertory...” set to Ferruccio Busoni/Bach Concerto for Keyboard and Strings in D Minor. Sound Secrets (2010) features a woman haunted by her own guilt about her disloyalty to a lover who is himself unashamedly disloyal, to Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion by Béla Bartok.
More than just “going to the ballet”, José Mateo Ballet Theatre offers a thrilling live dance theatre experience designed for today’s audiences. Named one of Massachusetts’ 1,000 Great Places to Visit, the stunning Sanctuary Theatre in Harvard Square offers an extraordinary close-up view of the dancers with cabaret-style seating and cocktails during the show. See ballet in a new light and be part of the drama, passion, and beauty on stage at the spectacular performance space in Old Cambridge Baptist Church, a National Historic Landmark.
