The Pirates of Penzance
February 20 - March 1, 2014
One of the best-known of the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, The Pirates of Penzance, is being shaken up a bit by setting this beloved classic in the slightly different world known as "steampunk"! Audiences will find that the Pirates are not your usual swashbuckling lads, the Wards of Major-General Stanley are not the typically demure young ladies in flowery pastels you've come to expect, and the Police ...well, they're a bit different, as well. While the production remains faithful to the time and location of the piece, staunch enthusiasts will enjoy a few surprises as The Sudbury Savoyards re-tell the traditional love story of young Frederic and beautiful Mabel, and their sense of duty.
