March 3, 2014
Please join North Hill for a special True North Music Series Program, “Musical Metaphor: How Instrumental Music ‘Means’” with Russell Ger, an Australian conductor based in New York whose broad repertoire spans orchestral, operatic, and choral music. Explore the ways in which certain pieces convey their deep emotional content through metaphors that arise as they unfold. This is a highly creative and engaging way to listen to music that will open up new avenues even in familiar old repertoire. Selections to illustrate the talk will include Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony as well as his famous 5th Symphony, Barber’s Adagio for Strings, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 1. Ger brought down the house when he presented What Does the Conductor DO? at North Hill in November 2013 Cost is $10. Seating is limited. Register online at www.NorthHill.org/courses or by email to RSVP@NorthHill.org or call 781-433-6400.
