The People's Battle: ImprovBoston Stand Up Tournament FINALS
May 30, 2014
After two months of competition, ImprovBoston’s inaugural standup comedy tournament, The People’s Battle, culminates with eight of Boston’s finest standup comics showcasing their best material this Friday at 10PM.
The People’s Battle Finals features Caitlin Durante, Matt Kona, Tom Severo, Meghan O'Toole, Jere Pilapil, David Bartlett, Nick Ortolani and Drew Bligh - the eight remaining comics narrowed down from a pool of more than 75 comedians. The champion will headline his or her own run of shows at ImprovBoston, open for a national ImprovBoston Presents Act, receive an invitation to guest teach for the ImprovBoston Comedy School and win a year of free shows at the 30-year old nonprofit comedy theater.
Judging the Finals will be Dana Jay Bein, director of ImprovBoston’s StandUp comedy program and People’s Show producer, Padraic O’Connor, producer for Battle Royale, and Mike Descoteaux, artistic director of ImprovBoston.
The People’s Battle unites Boston’s best standup comics in a two-month competition to crown the “People’s Best.” From April 12 - May 25, the tournament dished out laughs on ImprovBoston’s two stages, featuring more than 75 local comedians. A panel of ImprovBoston’s best comedians judged each round along with the audience, deciding who moves to finals and ultimately takes the title. Tournament headliners have included Boston standup luminaries Dan Crohn, Dan Boulger, Al Park, Alingon Mitra, Gary Petersen, Emily Ruskowski, John Baglio, Steve Macone and Zenobia Del Mar.
