    Longy School of Music of Bard College

    Graduate students from the Longy School of Music of Bard College will present a program of works for voice, solo piano, and chamber ensemble from the early twentieth century. Featured will be such seminal pieces as Bela Bartok’s Contrasts for violin, clarinet, and piano (commissioned by and first performed by jazz artist Benny Goodman); Claude Debussy’s Images, Book I for solo piano; and songs of Lili Boulanger, who won the Rome Prize at the age of 19 and left a number of significant compositions before her untimely death at age 24. (Boulanger’s sister Nadia, considered one the finest teachers who ever lived, taught at the Longy School from 1939 to 1945.)

    Longy School performers incude pianist Raymond Chow, soprano Alexandra Whitfield, violinist Mari Juntunen, clarinetist Luz Elena Sarmiento Lozada, and pianist Yoon Won Chung.

    The member fee is $10 and the non-member fee is $25. Registration is required and will being Wednesday, April 30 at 9:00 a.m.
