Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas
July 18, 2014
Though from different backgrounds, the mesmerizing duo of Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser and upstart cellist Natalie Haas has emerged as one of the most acclaimed purveyors of traditional Celtic music playing today. Fraser, a two-time Scottish National Fiddle Champion and esteemed long-time veteran of the traditional Celtic music scene, has been called “one of the finest fiddle players Scotland has ever produced” (Scots Magazine), and has been featured on the soundtracks of cinematic blockbusters like Titanic, Braveheart and The Last of the Mohicans among others. His playing transports listeners across a broad musical spectrum, ranging from haunting laments from the Gaelic tradition to classically-styled airs, raucous dance tunes, and improvisations based on traditional themes. Haas, hailing from California, was once a student of Fraser’s and has since taken the Celtic world by storm with her dynamic and innovative approach to the cello. Apart from her musical partnership with Fraser, she has collaborated with luminaries like Mark O’Connor, Natalie McMaster and Solas. Fraser and Haas’ undeniable musical chemistry is something to behold.
