Vespers Reimagined: Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610
April 27, 2014
It is with great pleasure that we would like to invite you to our season finale, Vespers Reimagined. The project presents what we believe to be a combination like no other: Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers infused with the artistry of Joshua Rifkin. The 1610 Vespers have a surprisingly brief history – after falling into oblivion for more than 200 years, the collection experienced a resurgence of scholarly interest around 1834, but was not fully revived in performance until 1935 in Zürich. Joshua will lead Cambridge Concentus in a further development in the performance history of the 1610 Vespers by suggesting an alternate organizational structure from that adopted by performers from the last century. We hope you will join us on April 27th at First Church in Cambridge to share in what promises to be a stimulating and invigorating experience.
