The Art of Craft
Presented by Fayerweather Street School
May 10 - May 11, 2014
Shop Local and support a great cause! The Art of Craft is being held May 10 and 11, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Fayerweather Street School. All proceeds support the art and music programs. This event is a family friendly, indoor/outdoor open market of contemporary and traditional arts, crafts, and artisanal foods that highlights local artists. From Geek to Chic, from toddler to teen, and from bargains to must-have-at-any-price, this selectively curated market will have something for everyone.
Find artisanal teas and herbs and handcrafted caramels for a lovely Mother’s Day gift, or help your tween find the perfect earrings to wear to his next "garage band" gig. Over 60 local cartographers, sculptors, potters, designers, and artists will offer their wares—crafted using variety of media from bicycle parts to fine silver and handdyed wool to "objets trouvée." Artists are from all over New England and their creations are also at SOWA, on Etsy, and in local shops and farmer's markets.
Children will have lots to do—dancing to live music by local musicians, having their face painted or grabbing a snack at the Fayerweather café. In celebration of the slow food scene, the students and parents have whipped up hot entrees like curried vegetables, Chinese dumplings, and gourmet mac and cheese, as well as bake sale items like cupcakes, homemade “poptarts” and cookies galore! Make sure to buy a reusable cup to sample all of the house-made flavored sodas!
Fayerweather Street School is an independent, progressive PreK through 8 school located in the Fresh Pond area of Cambridge at 765 Concord Avenue. There will be parking on site for the event. Tickets are $5 for anyone high school age and up, with a maximum of $20 per family.
