Guido's Ear presents "The Birth of the Baroque"

    Presented by at Salem Athenaeum

    May 10, 2014

    Guido's Ear presents

This delightful trio from New York City specializes in the late Renaissance and early Baroque–a pivotal period in which instrumental music came into its own. The group (two baroque violins, lute, guitar, & voice) explores the new sorts of instrumental music as well as the vocal and dance traditions from which they sprang, with a mission to bring out the joy, excitement, and sheer ingenuity of this music. The trio, with its varied combinations, evokes the diverse soundscapes of the early Baroque in Italy, from the great Monteverdi to Merula, Fontana, Castello, and others whose music we seldom hear.
