XX PlayLab Festival: New Ideas
June 6 - June 8, 2014
Discover the ideas that shape our city and nation's vibrant new play sector with this year's XX PlayLab artists. This weekend-long festival of new work will feature panel discussions, staged readings and talkbacks with the playmakers.
This season, the BCA and Company One will provide dramaturgical support and workshops for ASTRO BOY AND THE GOD OF COMICS by Natsu Onoda Power, from initial reading in the fall, to a full production in the summer of 2014. Additionally, Miranda Craigwell’s SHELTER and Obehi Janice’s FUFU AND OREOS will receive dramaturgical and design support, culminating in the XX PLAYLAB FESTIVAL in June, 2014.
SHELTER: It’s 1815, no – it’s 2005 – and storms are brewing off the Gulf Coast as the mixed community of New Orleans learns what the water brings us, and what it takes away.
FUFU & OREOS: a multiculti 20-something navigates the collisions between her Nigerian heritage, her American lifestyle, and loaded promise of Prozac.
