The Resilient Village: Myrtle Baptist Church Historic Neighborhood
Founded at a time when the nation was recovering from the Civil War, Myrtle Baptist Church was one of the first in New England to serve an African American religious community. Through decades of war, civic unrest and changes to the Newton landscape, what is now known as the Myrtle Baptist Neighborhood has remained cohesive, despite major structural losses sustained from the Mass Pike extension in the 1960s. Join Myrtle Baptist Church Pastor Emeritus Rev. Howard Haywood and Newton Senior Planner Katy Hax Holmes to discover the history of this significant neighborhood. Meet at the Myrtle Baptist Church, 21 Curve Street, Newton 02465.

For more information, visit www.historicnewton.org or call 617.796.1450.
