“Joyful Mexo-Americana fusion, with virtuosic musical skill and virtuous harmonies.”- The New Yorker
Fusing traditional Mexican folk with American roots and indie rock is the specialty of duo of David Wax and Suz Slezak. On several trips south of the border, David Wax immersed himself in Mexico’s rich traditional music culture, while Suz Slezak was homeschooled by her father on a small farm in rural Virginia. The two met in 2007 and began blending their unique musical perspectives to form the band.
With the release of Knock Knock Get Up in 2012, David Wax Museum reached a level of cross-cultural integration and musical fluency that now allows them to speak electrifying and heartfelt poetry with a tongue that is wholly their own. From being ranked #8 on Paste Magazine’s list of the Best Live Acts of 2011, to receiving a nod from TIME magazine as one of the top ten acts of 2011’s South by Southwest, David Wax Museum has become the hottest of America's indie bands.
David Wax Museum was nominated for three Boston Music Awards in 2012: Artist of the Year, Song of the Year (“Harder Before It Gets Easier”), and Folk Artist of the Year, winning the award for Song of the Year.
