Summer Classics: Moliere’s The Misanthrope
Presented by The Actors Studio of Newburyport
August 15 - August 17, 2014
First performed in 1666, this comedy of manners satirizes the hypocrisies of French aristocratic society while pointing out the flaws which all humans possess. The Misanthrope differs from most of Molière's other works by focusing more on character development and nuances than on plot progression. Today the play remains to be Molière's best-known work.
